Dr. Sastre
Dr. Sastre, PhD has nearly 40 years of experience in research grants development, study section organization and participation as a peer reviewer and as a grantee. During a 30-year research career, he received peer-reviewed funding from NIH, NSF, AHA, DoE and the DoD PRMRP. He routinely served as a member of NIH review panels. In 2007 he joined the NIH, first as Scientific Review Officer at the Center for Scientific Review (CSR), then in 2012, he joined the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), where at his retirement in 2017 he was Acting Deputy Director of Extramural Programs and Program Director. With this extensive experience that encompasses academic and SBIR/STTR awards, Dr. Sastre can advise applicants in high-level grant strategies and grantsmanship details essential for success.
